Criminal act suspected in death of Shaab man and woman
KUWAIT: Several crimes were reported in Kuwait over the weekend, following a spate of violations reported last week. In one of the cases reported on Friday, two Kuwaitis – a man and a woman – were found dead in a seaside apartment in Shaab, according to local reports. Police who arrived at the scene noticed bruises on the male citizen’s head. Detectives have opened an investigation to find out the exact causes of the deaths, the Arab daily Al-Rai reported yesterday.
Meanwhile, the body of a 32-year-old Kuwaiti man was taken to a coroner after being found dead in a vehicle, another daily reported yesterday. The prosecutor decided to register the case as a suspected crime. The deceased would have a criminal record, according to the Arab daily Al-Anbaa.
Separately, Abdullah Al-Mubarak’s detectives solved the case of a newborn girl found near a dumpster. A police source said the mother – a single woman in her 30s – was arrested. She said she threw the baby out hours after delivering her at home without anyone’s help, Al-Anbaa reported.
In another case, the police received a call about an attempted murder, so police were dispatched to the scene. The Arab woman who called them said her son – a Kuwaiti – threatened to kill her with a sharp object. When the police inquired about her, she was wanted on a misdemeanor case. When she was taken to the police station, her son arrived with a sharp object in an attempt to escape, but he was overpowered and arrested, Al-Anbaa reported yesterday. He was also wanted for damaging a police patrol vehicle. Both have been sent to the relevant authorities.
Police arrested a man on Thursday after he allegedly killed his sister in Taima. The victim reportedly called the police for help, claiming she had been held captive inside her home for two months. When her brother found out, he attacked her with a knife before police attended the scene, and she was dead by the time they arrived. The day before, a man reportedly died of a gunshot wound after arguing with a police officer who arrested him for reckless driving in the same area.
Drug dealer arrested
Meanwhile, the Home Office announced yesterday that police had arrested a citizen for bringing 1.5 kg of shabu (methamphetamine) hidden in a package of sweets imported into Kuwait. Agents of the General Department of Drug Control received information about the arrival of a package by a courier containing candy boxes, in which drugs were hidden. Customs were contacted and the shipping police number obtained, then when the cargo arrived it was left under police surveillance.
The police tracked the shipment until it reached a house where the citizen came out, and he was placed under arrest after receiving the package. The man admitted to importing the drugs with the intention of selling them, the ministry said. During the search of his home, police found 20 grams of hashish, seven narcotic pills and a shotgun. He was taken to the relevant authorities for further action.
Also yesterday, firefighters extinguished a fire that broke out yesterday in a local cooperative. Images showing shoppers evacuated from a supermarket in Kuwait after the fire alarm went off went viral on social media yesterday. Kuwait firefighters later confirmed that Shuhada firefighters had extinguished the fire that had started in an air conditioning unit on the roof of the Roudha Co-operative Society. No injuries have been reported as an investigation has been opened, KFF said.
