TThe Troup County Fire Department on Thursday removed the provisional tag from Michael Strickland’s title, officially naming him as the new fire chief.

Strickland has been Acting Fire Chief since October 2021 and Director of the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) since January 2021.

He holds numerous certifications in Fire, EMS and Emergency Management, including National Professional Qualification of Firefighter 1 and 2, Aircraft and Pump Operator, Fire Inspector 1, Fire Instructor 1 and 2 and fire agent 1, 2, 3 and 4.

He is also a Georgia State Paramedic and Nationally Registered Paramedic.

Prior to joining Troup County, Strickland served in the Fayette County Fire Department / EMS in a variety of roles, including Assistant Fire Marshal, Fire Lieutenant and Fire Captain. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University, where he graduated with Distinction, and has resided in Troup County, Ga., Since 2017.

Strickland was also the alternate choice when former chef John Ekaitis was hired. This decision was therefore still awaited once Ekaitis announced its retirement.

We wish Strickland the best of luck as he continues to serve as the fire chief for his community. We look forward to working with him over the years.
