The Williams Lake Fire Department responded to a wildfire at the west end of Eagleview Road on Thursday afternoon (April 7), confirmed Evan Dean, acting fire prevention and training officer for the WLFD.

“WLFD crews were able to quickly extinguish a wildfire spreading towards a house. The BC Wildfire Service was called in as the fire reached outside of the WLFD fire protection zone,” Dean noted. “The WLFD responded with 22 personnel and four devices to ensure the fire did not spread to nearby properties.”

Dean said the scene was left with the BC Wildfire Service.

The Cariboo Fire Center issued a news release later Thursday afternoon urging residents to avoid fires due to high winds expected Thursday and Friday.

As of Thursday evening, the 1.1 hectare fire had an “ongoing” status, confirmed fire information officer Jessica Mack.
